GARDENING WITH KIDS
Make it a bright and beautiful day with some smiling flowers and yummy veggies in your life.
If gardening isn't your thing or if it seems a little too much to add to your already full plate this year, remember to keep it simple! Letting the kids take over and giving them ownership is great for their autonomy and helps keep the activity fun! Gathering all of the garden supplies before the kids are even around can be very helpful. Here are the supplies to have ready and some of our favorite gardening tools for kids.

SEEDS OR STARTS?
There are pros and cons to using either seeds or starts and it depends on what is best for you but both are great! Seeds are nice because you see the entire growth process and they are very affordable. They take a little more time to get the flower or veggie but the process can be very rewarding. Sometimes there can be trouble with birds or squirrels getting to your seeds before they have a chance to grow. Starts are nice because they are already well on their way to being edible and you don't have to wait long. We like to use starts because our seeds often get eaten early on. Just dig a hole, plant them and water. The simplicity of starts is another reason we get them year after year.
REUSING WATER BOTTLES
We made watering bottles out of used water bottles by poking holes in the lid. Just tap a nail with a hammer into the cap, making sure the holes were big enough they would not get soil stuck. I learned this tip from the wonderful gardening volunteer at the school I taught in years ago. (Thanks, KP-your ideas are timeless!) Make sure you make one for each child!
